Confidential & Affordable Therapy for Immigrants & Refugees
At Khesed, we believe that mental health care should be safe, accessible, and free from fear—regardless of immigration status. Whether you meet with a therapist virtually or in person, your information is confidential and protected under federal law.
We know that many individuals, especially those impacted by immigration concerns, may worry about privacy when seeking therapy. This guide will help you understand your rights, how Khesed supports immigrant and refugee communities, and where to find additional resources.
Our Commitment to Immigrants & Refugees
At Khesed, we are honored to serve immigrants and refugees in need of mental health support. We understand that navigating life in a new country can be stressful, and therapy should never be out of reach because of cost, insurance, or immigration concerns.
We do not bill insurance – this means we can work with all clients.
We offer free and affordable therapy – We have recently open spots in our free therapy and low-cost therapy programs, specifically for immigrants and refugees.
We have Spanish-speaking therapists – Our team includes bilingual therapists to ensure care is accessible and culturally responsive. Learn more.

Your Rights in Therapy
1. Your Therapy Records Are Private
Your mental health information is protected under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
Khesed does not share your therapy records with immigration officials (ICE or CBP) unless legally required by a valid court order or subpoena.
Your therapist cannot confirm or disclose your immigration status to anyone.
2. Law Enforcement & Immigration Officials Cannot Access Your Records Without a Court Order
ICE cannot access therapy records or request information without a judge-signed warrant or a court-issued subpoena.
If law enforcement contacts Khesed for information about you, we will not provide it voluntarily—we will follow the law and protect your privacy to the fullest extent possible.
3. You Do Not Have to Share Your Immigration Status
You do not have to answer questions about your immigration status from anyone.
Your therapist is not required to report your immigration status to any government agency.
You have the right to continue therapy regardless of your status.
What to Do If You’re Approached by ICE or Law Enforcement
If an immigration officer or law enforcement agent contacts you, here are key steps to protect yourself:
If You Are Stopped in Public:
Stay calm and do not run. Running could be misinterpreted.
You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to answer questions about where you were born, your immigration status, or how you entered the U.S.
Ask: “Am I free to leave?” If the officer says yes, walk away calmly.
Do not sign anything without speaking to a lawyer.
If ICE or Law Enforcement Comes to Your Home:
They cannot enter without a judicial warrant. ICE agents must have a warrant signed by a judge to enter your home.
Do not open the door. Ask them to slide the warrant under the door or hold it up to a window.
If they do not have a valid warrant, you do not have to let them in.
If You Are Contacted Online or by Phone:
You do not have to answer calls or emails from ICE or law enforcement.
If you receive a request for information, contact an immigration attorney before responding.
